The Vision
A campaign for Ariel India required a highly complex, critical post-production pivot: the lead actor in the fully shot advertisement needed to be entirely replaced with a different man. The primary objective was absolute realism. The character swap had to be executed so flawlessly that the viewing audience would never suspect the original live-action footage had been altered, ensuring the commercial's narrative and visual continuity remained entirely intact.
The Journey: Technical Precision and Seamless Integration
At Ai.Daastan Films, we specialize in leveraging advanced AI to solve logistical and creative challenges in post-production. Replacing a main character across dynamic video sequences goes far beyond traditional masking. It requires an intricate understanding of lighting, facial expressions, skin textures, and physics.
To execute this, we utilized cutting-edge AI-driven character replacement techniques. We generated the new actor's likeness and meticulously mapped it onto the original performance. Every individual frame was tracked, color-matched, and blended to ensure the new character interacted naturally with the environment, the lighting of the set, and the physical props (like clothing and detergent). The rigorous process involved fine-tuning the AI output and seamlessly compositing it over the source footage so the new actor's presence felt entirely organic to the scene.
How We Elevated the Production
Traditionally, recasting and replacing a lead actor would necessitate completely reshooting the commercial—a process that is highly cost-prohibitive and time-consuming. By executing this character replacement entirely through AI and VFX, we bypassed the need for a reshoot. This not only saved the production immense resources but also salvaged the existing footage, delivering a polished, broadcast-ready advertisement for the Indian market without missing a beat.
